(A Reflection on Time, Transformation, and the Body Through Movement)

90/now is a solo contemporary dance performance inspired by the recurring question people around me ask: “Why is it not better than before?” This question, often rooted in nostalgia and longing for the past, becomes the catalyst for exploring the contrasts between the past and the present. Using movement, the performance will examine how life, feelings, societal values, the environment, and the body have transformed from 1990 to today. The piece will integrate Lao traditional dance with contemporary dance, reflecting both my personal journey and broader cultural changes.

"90/Now" is a captivating contemporary dance performance that unfolds in two parts, reflecting both personal history and the evolving present. The first part, 90, is inspired by the year 1990 — the year the artist was born. It weaves together poetic imagery of a slower, more serene life, exploring themes of nature, rivers, and the connections between people and their environments through delicate, reflective choreography. The second part, Now, marks a shift to the present, where the artist challenges herself to incorporate current feelings, ideas, and materials. This section is fluid and adaptable, allowing the performance to evolve and interact with diverse elements, creating a dynamic contrast between memory and transformation.
