In the dark, a body moves with slow intensity, accompanied by prerecorded low frequency noises, creating an illusion of live sound with dance. This reflects the complex relationship between my body and its social environment. In fact, the pre-­‐recorded sounds ARE my body; they are recordings of my body parts making contact as they move. This is a metaphor of the inner cage, of self-­‐limitation.

In order to synchronize myself with pre-­‐recorded low frequency noises, I move entirely concentratedly, as if entering a fantasy or unreal zone. The entanglement of live and record sounds creates an ambiguous line between inner and outer worlds. The collision of these two (contradictory) worlds produces strength. The sense of space and time and physical sensation become confused and restless.

I wonder how much attention I need to give my body to complete a performance with pre-­‐recorded sound, and how much I need to simply let my body go. The body seems cold and indifferent as its limbs are twisted, but it still responds to warmth and touch. The performer is looking for a moment to unchain herself.
