I didn’t know what to bring, so I brought myself
I didn’t know what to bring, so I brought myself

在《I didn’t know what to bring, so I brought myself》這段獨舞中,頭髮成為既是線索也是負擔的存在,象徵著適應改變的過程中所看不見的勞動。
When I wash my hair, it takes me at least an hour to get ready. The result is never the same. Sometimes, minimal effort gives me perfect curls; other times, despite everything, it’s a bad hair day. Some assume it’s a perm. Most don’t know what it takes to care for my hair. I have tried to straighten it and do every kind of treatment to strip it of its nature. Some say it’s special, different. It is. It’s also exhausting.
And I’m not just talking about hair.
“I didn’t know what to bring, so I brought myself” is a solo dance where hair becomes both thread and burden, a metaphor for the unseen labor of adaptation. Spirals collapse and reform, between effort and ease, between what is natural and what is shaped. Movement reframes the limits of what is seen and what is hidden, felt, and held as human, embodying the vulnerability of feeling out of place yet offering oneself fully.
An exploration of neurodiversity within the broader conversation on identity and human experience.
