What the Wind Taught Me

《What the Wind Taught Me》 是一部個人舞蹈作品,講述在未能表達的情緒風暴中航行,並在自身內心找到庇護的過程。
Like the Wind weaving between concrete walls and faded windows, a weary but eager heart searches for a small opening...a glimmer of light. “What the Wind Taught Me” is a solo movement piece about navigating the turbulence of unexpressed emotions and finding sanctuary within oneself.
Nature has always played a large role in Aiyu Collective’s artistic process. When generating new choreography, we often immerse ourselves among the trees, near bodies of water, and in the mountains. As a company, we believe in movement that is imperfect, honest, and challenges the notions of what a dancing body should look like. Our work centers around intuition and curiosity, which nature grants in endless abundance.
ChiWen developed this project during playful afternoons in grassy parks and under breezy skies. Movement meditations and lost memories began morphing into physical questions of a spiritual body attempting to hold—all at once—the disparate feelings of stagnant liminality and grounding clarity. Soon, the Wind emerged as a tender voice for ChiWen’s own restlessness, and the heart of the piece became clear: how can we nurture resilient hope when everything feels like it’s falling out of place?
Drawing inspiration from wushu and rituals in nature, “What the Wind Taught Me” encourages the audience to contemplate the ways we listen to the world versus the ways we listen to ourselves.

They believe in art as an act of service and are drawn to multicultural stories that both question and embrace humanity. In practice, this means seeking out the unexpected places—where different people and stories can hold hands—and asking: how can we enhance each other?
ChiWen holds a B.F.A. in Theatre from NYU Tisch School of the Arts and has performed professionally for over 10 years in New York City with Ars Nova, Ma-Yi Theatre Company, The Public Theatre, Pipeline Theatre Company, and Playwrights Horizons. The creative process behind Aiyu Collective is inspired by the persistence of its namesake fruit, whose growth relies on a network of intertwining, symbiotic vines. They strive to make work that reminisces on the joy of sharing dessert with your grandparents after school. Aiyu Collective’s “EVEN HERE” was developed in residency with Fresh Ground Pepper in 2024, which led to its Off-Broadway premiere at Pan-Asian Repertory’s 2025 NuWorks Festival in NYC.
