Echoing Body originated as a site-specific work developed for Nuit Blanche Taipei 2025 in the Yuanshan Tunnel. When the body is placed within a long, enclosed underground passage, the historical weight carried by the space gradually begins to surface. Presences that have never left behind a name seem to reverberate within the site like echoes, creating an atmosphere in which the performer senses unspoken solitude and existence.
Through the mutual perception between space and body, the performer does not attempt to reenact a specific historical event. Instead, the body becomes a resonant medium that receives and responds to the weight left by history. Those who once existed in this place but can no longer speak appear through breath, sound, and the presence of the body, leaving subtle yet persistent echoes within the space.
As the work moves from the Yuanshan Tunnel into the theatre, the form of the space changes, yet the weight does not disappear. These unnamed presences remain within the performer’s body like lingering echoes, allowing the body to continue sensing and carrying the traces of history across different environments.

Echoing Body is not a reenactment of history, but an act of bodily listening. In the moment where time and space intersect, the performer’s body carries the weight left behind by history, allowing those who can no longer speak to be perceived again through resonance.
