The Red Undergarment They Point At

2023 年起,我開始重新思考「內衣」對我而言究竟意味著什麼。當我不再將它視為理所當然的日常選擇,身體便開始直接面對來自外界的目光。那些目光未必帶有言語,卻往往隱含評價、規訓與期待。這樣的觀看方式,也讓我不斷追問,我們究竟是如何理解一具女性身體的?
在既有的文化想像裡,身體經常被放置在矛盾的標準之中:豐滿可能被視為過度展露,纖瘦又可能被認為不夠符合「女性化」的期待。身體因此不只是身體本身,而成為被觀看、被詮釋、被要求修正的對象。這些標準並非明文規定,卻長期滲透在日常生活與社會語境之中,影響著我們如何遮掩自己、如何展示自己,也影響著我們如何理解自己。
因此,我選擇以自己的身體作為提問的起點。透過身體,我試圖開啟一場關於自我認同、凝視與自由的對話。在作出任何表態之前,我想先凝視自己:這個陪伴我 23 年的身體,我是否真正認識她?是否真正接納她?而我對她的遮蔽與袒露,究竟出自自我意志,還是回應著外界長久以來的期待與干涉?
Since 2023, I have reconsidered what “undergarments” mean to me. When I no longer take them for granted as a daily choice, the body directly faces the external gaze—a gaze often silent yet heavy with judgment, regulation, and expectation. This scrutiny leads me to ask: how do we truly understand the female body?
In existing cultural imaginaries, the body is trapped within contradictory standards: fullness is seen as overexposure, while thinness is deemed "unfeminine." The body ceases to be just a body; it becomes an object to be watched, interpreted, and corrected. These unspoken norms permeate daily life, influencing how we conceal or display ourselves, and how we understand our own being.
Thus, I use my body as a starting point. Through it, I open a dialogue on self-identity, the gaze, and freedom. Before making any statement, I gaze at myself: this body that has accompanied me for 23 years—do I truly know her? Do I truly accept her? Are my choices to hide or reveal born of self-will, or a response to long-standing external interference?

陳鈺晶,臺南人,左中、台藝畢業,目前就讀國立臺北藝術大學舞蹈研究所創作主修,設想舞蹈為一大群漫無邊際的前語言學科,將轉述的一些方式運用進入身體感知,身體是人人都有的載體,舞蹈為一種人人皆在身的共體活動,行動 舞蹈中,找回自己。
Yu Jing Chen, a Tainan native, graduated from Tsoying High School and National Taiwan University of the Arts. She is currently an MFA candidate in Dance Creation at Taipei National University of the Arts. She envisions dance as a vast, boundless pre-linguistic discipline, applying modes of transcription to bodily perception. The body is a vessel possessed by everyone; dance is a communal activity inherent in all. Within the act of dancing, she finds herself.
