I probably understood something at the moment.
It may not be the mist or thick fog, not the missing part in between translations, not the poor pronunciation, nor the alien faces or skin tone.
But each of us lives in our own dream, which might be comfortable and bright, yet without sunlight…

And perhaps we’ve all lived with eternal fears, wandered on the native land that we will never be able to return to, yet turned into vanishing ashes that leave nothing but void at the end of life. – MARY 李/瑪麗 LI

In the autumn of 2024, the founder of Nomadic ARTS Collective, director/choreographer HUANG Chih-Chia, participated in a residency program at The Place in London, UK. Drawing inspiration from the local environment and the ubiquitous phenomenon of “migration” within contemporary globalization, she started to explore how migrants' bodies, languages, cultures, and surrounding environments connect and interact within the dynamic modern society, where cultural contexts intertwine and rapidly shift. Integrating her creative concepts, the Dance/Physical Theatre project MARY 李/瑪麗 LI was launched and continues developing after returning to Taiwan.

After two sections of work-in-progress presentations in different spaces in 2025, the completed version of MARY 李/瑪麗 LI, collaboratively created with three musicians, premiered in mid-March 2026 at the Experimental Theatre of the National Theatre & Concert Hall.

Being emotional and sensitive as a dancer and actress, she explores through body and dance movements, while also being rational in constructing narratives as a director and choreographer. Drawing on all her previous working experience in theater, dance, film, and performance art, Chih-Chia has been continuously experimenting with the structure and format of her performing arts work. She discovers specific architecture, spaces, and environments, seeing them as the original main theme, and creates imaginary characters, dance, movements, and narratives that echo the characteristics, history, and atmosphere of these spaces. She then constructs these elements into different forms that can be presented via various media.
